Overview

The BCMOS Wilderness Access program runs from:

PACIFIC SPIRIT REGIONAL PARK (4915 West 16th Ave., Vancouver - Phone 604.222.1312) from mid-May to the end of August and from our head office in Vancouver (Suite 207 - 3077 Granville Street, Vancouver - Phone 604.688.6464 ext. 126). However, feel free to contact us at head office any time with questions.

See here for program dates.

Throughout the spring and summer season, our Wilderness Access program will be offering various TrailRider excursions for people with a variety of abilities, interests and goals. Some might want to get out and climb a mountain, others might be more interested in wilderness appreciation... or seek an easy jaunt with their extended family. TrailRider users range from trekkers to picnickers, but each and every one is pushing back a personal boundary of some sort.

The TrailRider can accommodate anyone over 4 ft tall - an insert is used to make it more comfortable for riders under 5 ft - although children will have to be accompanied by an adult.

There is a great deal of flexibility in what we do, so tell us if you are looking for something not covered here. Your feedback will help us improve our program for future users.

Day Hikes

BCMOS offers day hikes at Pacific Spirit Regional Park, Wednesday to Friday through the summer season. These are of varying duration.

The 1,885-acre Pacific Spirit Regional Park, on the University of BC Endowment Lands, is the third largest regional park in the Greater Vancouver Regional District. It is a multi-purpose recreational area used by hikers, joggers, equestrian riders and cyclists. The GVRD is working with BCMOS to ensure that trails allocated for use by the Wilderness Access program will be safe.

Theme Hikes

We offer theme hikes, at weekends, to a variety of Lower Mainland locations. Expect half-day hikes around Spanish Banks, Lighthouse Park or Mt. Seymour, guided eco-tours in Stanley Park, trips to Maplewood Mudflats for bird watching and wildlife viewing, and guided, interpreted treks through old growth forests of Lower Seymour Conservation Reserve. . . or something completely different! Letting us know what you would like to see, if not covered here, would be of assistance.

Camping Trips

We frequently extend theme hikes into two-day excursions, with overnight campouts. Under this, many people with significant disabilities have enjoyed nights in the wilderness. Past camping trips have taken place at Cheakamus Lake in Garibaldi Provincial Park.

General Hire

Rent a TrailRider from us, any time of year, and do your own thing!

Special Expeditions

BCMOS initiates and supports projects in which disabled adventurers push the challenges of accessibility to inspiring new levels. Examples of previous expeditions can be seen here.
